Think about the clothes you wear, what do you think about? Do you think about the fabric, the color, the texture, the cut, the size? Are there rules you follow to survive your shopping trip? Do you often think that it is you that is failing and you are too skinny, have no butt, have a big butt or are too fat or have to hide those thighs or arms or belly?
That is what a LOT of women think about. Each day they are beating themselves up and sometimes in very harsh ways. Even though we hear that confidence is what counts, or inner beauty, or it is about how you carry yourself and not the size, we tend to forget and move into that inner mean talk.
We hear about the “in color”, and the color blocking, and what to do if you are short or tall. Often a person is left feeling as confused about the rules for how to “dress for success”; and actually look great , as they are about what to eat and why.
But there is one more secret that I wish people would learn and try, and it is one that I am surprised does not get more attention. I am going to share it with you today, and my hope is that you will go to your own closet and give it a try. One of the reasons this is such a practical tip and so vital to how we feel all day is because it is about the area of the body we SEE as we go through our day; our face and shoulders.
What we are going to focus on is the collar area of our shirts and jackets. Odds are you already know what colors you should never wear near your face. We all do really, because when we wear them people come up to us all day long and ask “Are you alright?!” and by the second time we are asked, we are not feeling as good as we did before we left the house.
Your collar honestly has as much impact on your look. For example how many of us own t-shirts? We even get them free when we do fun runs or volunteer or with "work logos" on them. The t-shirt is acceptable clothing for many places not just for sports. Many people even wear them to work.
But the collar of a t-shirt can make you look like your neck is very short and make your face and jawline look heavier. Even if it is in the “perfect color to bring out your eyes or for your skin tone or the season”. Simply getting away from that t-shirt collar can make some of you look like you lost weight!
Now think of the other looks you have in your closet, do you have a button down shirt, or perhaps a Mandarin collar; how about a cowl neck or a v-neck? It is great to find the different collars in your closet, and then try the shirts on in front of a mirror. You will see very quickly that it is not about your weight, or if you had cake for breakfast. Instead you will notice that how you look changes simply with the collar. Same hair, same day, same makeup, same weight but the looks are very different.
This is a beauty tip we can all “fit into” and use with ease.
