In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals (officially known as the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs). These goals have the power to create a better world by 2030, by ending poverty, fighting inequality and addressing the urgency of climate change.
Guided by the goals, it is now up to all of us, to work together to build a better future for everyone.
(1) No Poverty, (2) Zero Hunger, (3) Good Health and Well-being, (4) Quality Education, (5) Gender Equality, (6) Clean Water and Sanitation, (7) Affordable and Clean Energy, (8) Decent Work and Economic Growth, (9) Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, (10) Reducing Inequality, (11) Sustainable Cities and Communities, (12) Responsible Consumption and Production, (13) Climate Action, (14) Life Below Water, (15) Life On Land, (16) Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, (17) Partnerships for the Goals.
All of the goals are necessary, and worthy and yes it can be hard to choose how to help because they are all pressing and important, urgent needs. This really is a great opportunity for everyone to "bloom where they are planted" and make a difference. Because all of the work that each of us does falls somewhere into these larger goals. And each one of these larger goals is really a "heading" with pieces underneath to work on and forward.
For example under Goal 4 there are 10 targets, and one of those is 4.2 EQUAL ACCESS TO QUALITY PRE-PRIMARY EDUCATION By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education so that they are ready for primary education.
Others like Goal 17 refer to the need for cross sector and cross country collaboration in pursuit of all the goals by the year 2030. It is a call for countries to align policies. But of course part of that is in seeking alignment within the country that we live in. It's really about scaffolding support.
I will be talking a lot more about this work on this blog, including actionable things that you can do to help build the future.
Safe and happy travels!
